Mother’s Day Ideas

With Mother’s Day only a few weeks away (Sunday 12 May), now is a good time to start thinking about how to spoil your Mum and say thank you for everything she has done and does do for you.

Breakfast in Bed

Why not let Mum have a sleep in and organise a surprise breakfast in bed.

Even if, like me, you aren’t the greatest cook everyone appreciates someone else cooking for them once in a while. It’s one the kids can also assist with.

Some breakfast ideas could include:

  • Scrambled eggs and avocado on toast
  • French toast sprinkled with cinnamon and topped with a berry compote
  • Pancakes with fresh fruit and maple syrup
  • Spanish baked eggs with chorizo and toasted Turkish bread
  • Freshly squeezed juice
  • A hot tea or coffee

The Gourmet Traveller has a range of recipes you can make. My only advice – try them before the day if you struggle in the kitchen.

Gift Mum a coupon book

This is a great one for the kids and can be prepared in the lead up to Mother’s Day. It’s simple, doesn’t cost a lot and Mum is sure to appreciate the time off.

You will need:

  • Coloured card
  • Markers
  • String or a stapler
  • A few fun things to decorate with e.g. glitter and stickers

Here’s what to do:

  1. Make a list of all the things that your Mum does for you or around the home. Perhaps she walks the dog, makes your lunch, irons your shirt or sweeps the floor.
  2. Take the coloured card and cut it into rectangles.
  3. Write a task on each piece of card and decorate.
  4. Group the card together and either staple or tie together with some string.

You now have a coupon book for Mum. You Mum can then chose when to use each coupon and you have to do that task for her. The best part is that this gift keeps on giving through the year.

Treat Mum to High Tea at The Melbourne Hotel

This one is sure to impress even the fussiest of Mothers.

The Melbourne Hotel is celebrating Mother’s Day in style with high tea at Aurora Rooftop Bar.

Imagine sipping on tea, coffee or even a glass of Prosecco while you work your way through an assortment of treats, all while enjoying the view of the city buildings.

Prices range from $55 to $75 per person and include free-flowing tea and coffee as well as an assortment of tasty bites.

Participate in the Mother’s Day Classic

The annual Mother’s Day Classic walk is being held again this year on 12 May.

So why not combine spending time with Mum while supporting research in breast cancer.

Every day 53 women are diagnosed with breast cancer participating in this charity event helps raise awareness into the disease while providing hope to those affected by it.

To date, this event has raised over $35M and 1.27M people have participated in the event Australia wide. They aim to raise $40M by 2020.

Registrations are open now, so why not sign up with your Mum, family and friends and make a day of it. Registrations close 10 May and options include a 4km walk or run and an 8km walk or run.
